    Northern Womens Bowling Association

(4 Woods) – Champion of Champions Competition 2002

The Garden Village Ladies Bowls Club added another accolade to their excellent record when their Champion – Diane Dobson of Briarwood Avenue – won the above competition which was played at Saltwell Park Gateshead on the 12th August.

This competition is held between the champions of all the clubs in the Northern Womens Bowling Association.. Diane was required to play five matches – first to 18 points – and the final – first to 21 points. This would have required something in the region of 500 woods to be bowled during the course of the one-day competition. When asked how she felt at the end of the contest Diane replied “Knackered!!” This trophy has only once before been won by a Garden Village bowler that was Margaret Russell of Hollywood Avenue in 1995.

Margaret Johnson nearly made it a double whammy for the ladies when she was narrowly beaten in the final of the Two Woods Competition at Walker Park last week. Excellent performance by the girls – Men bowlers please note!!.
