What Does 'Membership' Involve?
Membership of the Gosforth Garden Village Association (GGVA), is open to all inhabitants of Garden Village. Infact inhabitants are automatically granted membership when they first move into a property in the area.
Properties which qualify their occupiers for membership will carry with their property deeds, a copy of the Trust Deed.
This map defines the boundaries of the area of Gosforth known as Garden Village.
The properties which fall within these boundaries have a legal interest in the Trust.
Membership can be revoked by the Association's Management Committee should any member be deemed to be behaving in a manner which is detrimental to the well-being of the community.
Theoretically a member could also revoke their own membership by not paying the annual subscription fee set out in the Trust Deed.
For a long time the annual subscription fee was set at five shillings (a 1959 copy of the Deed sets it at this rate), the equivalent of 25 pence.
The current subscription (August 2002), is 50 pence per year. Had the subscription rate been raised with inflation, the annual charge would new be around £10.
The annual subscription is collected on the doorstep by volunteers working for the Management Committee.
Membership of the GGVA confers voting rights at General Meetings and the right to stand for election to the GGVA Management Committee. For more information on the structure of the GGVA see the link - 'About GGVA - The Organisation' under the menu on the left of your screen.
